Have A Safe And Enjoyable Memorial Day In The 88th Assembly District

Dear friends and neighbors,

The first big holiday weekend of the summer is here and it’s time to relax and enjoy the time off. Please take a few minutes, though, to remember why you are off on Monday and thank the veterans who have served our country.

There will also be plenty to enjoy in the cities, towns and villages of the 88th Assembly District this weekend. Here’s a closer look at some of the events that are taking place in the 88th. THURSDAY

  • The Reformed Church of Bronxville (180 Pondfield Road, Bronxville) will host The Food For Thought Book Club from 7-8 p.m. for a discussion about “The Faith Club: A Muslim, A Christian, A Jew – Three Women Search For Understanding” by Ranya Iblidy. Visit reformedchurch.org for more information.

FRIDAY

 SATURDAY

  • Hudson Park Beach (1 Hudson Park Road, New Rochelle) will open and be open on weekends only until July 1. Visit newrochelleny.com for more information.
  • The Bronxville PTA will host its annual Dog Parade as part of its Memorial Day celebration at Bronxville High School (177 Pondfield Road, Bronxville). Registration begins at 11 a.m. and the parade starts at 11:30 a.m. Visit tinyurl.com/kdhw2vc for more information.
  • The Eastchester Community Youth Safety Day event will take place at Town Hall (40 Mill Road, Eastchester) from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. There will be safety demonstrations, raffles, refreshments and more. Visit eastchester.org for more information.
  • The Music Conservatory of Westchester (216 Central Avenue, White Plains) will hold an open house for its Summer Music & Arts Program between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Visit musicconservatory.org for more information.
  • The Bronxville PTA will host The James E. Kearney Run for Fun and Kids Dash/Obstacle Course at Bronxville High School (177 Pondfield Road, Bronxville) at 8:45 a.m. Visit bronxvillepta.org for more information.

  • The Eastchester/Tuckahoe Veterans Ceremony Committee will place wreaths and read the names of veterans at The Holy Mount Cemetery (Cemetery Lane, Eastchester) at 10 a.m. Wreaths will also be placed at town and village monuments honoring those who fought in both World Wars as well as in Korea and Vietnam. SUNDAY

  • The City of New Rochelle will host a Memorial Day Decoration of the Graves at Beechwood Cemetery (179 Beechwood Avenue, New Rochelle) at 9:30 a.m. Flags will be replaced on the graves of U.S. veterans. Visit newrochelleny.com for more information.
  • The Eastchester/Tuckahoe Veterans Ceremony Committee will hold a ceremony in the Eastchester High (2 Stewart Place, Eastchester) auditorium at 7 p.m. There will be guest speakers from Eastchester, Bronxville and Tuckahoe High Schools and the Eastchester High band will perform.   • The Play Group Theatre (One North Broadway, White Plains) will present Urinetown, a musical about love-struck Bobby Strong, at 2 and 7 p.m. Visit playgroup.org for more information.

MONDAY

  • The St. Paul’s Church and National Historic Site (897 South Columbus Avenue, Mount Vernon) will hold a Memorial Day Commemoration between 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. There will be a brief ceremony followed by tours about the lives and service of those buried in the historic cemetery.
  • The Town of Pelham Memorial Day parade will begin at 11:30 a.m. from the Esplanade and Black Street before ending up in Veteran’s Park on Fifth Avenue, where a commemorative service will take place. Visit pelhamgov.com for more information.
  • The Manor Club of Pelham (1023 Esplanade, Pelham Manor) will be open all day for all veterans and soldiers marching in the Memorial Day parade. Refreshments and snacks will be provided as a way of saying thank you to our service men and women. Visit themanorclubofpelham.org for more information.
  • The City of New Rochelle will host a Memorial Day ceremony in Memorial Plaza at 10 a.m. It will be followed by a Memorial Day Appreciation Event at Glen Island Park (Weyman Avenue, New Rochelle) at noon.   • The City of White Plains will host the Memorial Day 5K Run/Walk at 8:15 a.m. to honor the men and women who have served in the military. The start/finish line will be at the corner of church and Main Streets. Visit cityofwhiteplains.com for more information.
  • The City of White Plains Memorial Day Parade will take place at 10 a.m. beginning on Church Street and proceed to the cemetery on North Broadway. Visit cityofwhiteplains.com for more information.
  • The annual Bronxville Memorial Day Parade and Antique Car Show will kick off at Leonard Morange Square at 9 a.m. Visit villageofbronxville.com for more information.
  • The Bronxville Historical Conservancy will have a public dedication ceremony at Bronxville Village Hall following the parade during which a bronze plaque recognizing the 12 years the Kennedy family lived in Bronxville will be unveiled.   • The Village of Scarsdale parade will be at 10 a.m. and I will be there speaking along with Scarsdale Mayor Dan Hochvert and Col. John Flynn. There will be a wreath-placing ceremony in Boniface Circle and a march through the Village that will end at Chase Park, where the speeches will be made. Visit scarsdale.com for more information.
