Assemblywoman Paulin:
Although I am not in your district, I wanted to express my appreciation to you for your efforts and hard work in the area of the veterans service credit bill. I am a high school teacher in the Auburn City School District and a retired LTC,US Army. Thank you.
I would also like to thank you for your support, hard work and perseverance for the Veterans Service Buy Back Bill. I am a 17 year veteran of the New York City Police Department and a six year veteran of the US Army 1992-1998. I can’t begin to tell you how much you have lifted my spirits with this bill. The current bill has made me feel like my service, which started basically on my 18th Birthday, was not good enough. Watching people to my left and right buy back their years of service and not being able to do so myself, is a feeling that is hard to explain. I can remember like it was yesterday, signing the recruiters papers and having my parents sign because I was still 17 years old as tears ran down my mothers eyes. I was ready . . . . ready to give the ultimate sacrifice to protect and serve my country and my mother knew that as she signed off and looked over at me. Your support and fight to change the current bill is a breath of fresh air and it does not matter to me whether I am able to buy back some of my time because I had really given up hope . . . What does matter is that there are still great people like yourself out there willing to fight for what you believe is right. I can’t begin to thank you for all that you have done and your continuing struggle to make a wrong, right. God bless you and your family.
Thank you.
