A Big Spring Weekend In The 88th Assembly District

Dear friends and neighbors,

Winter is now a distant memory and it is time to begin enjoying the warmer weather. This weekend should be a spectacular one in the cities, towns and villages of the 88th Assembly District. There are movies, music, discussions, films and much more to enjoy.

THURSDAY

  • The St. John’s, Wilmot, Episcopal Church (11 Wilmot Road, New Rochelle) will host the first day of its three-day, tag-sale event. Visit stjohnswilmot.com for more information.
  • Elizabeth Kemble, the founder of Travellati Tours, will speak at the Bronxville Library (201 Pondfield Road, Bronxville) at 2 p.m. to speak about “Hemingway’s Paris”, detailing the famed author’s haunts while he was living in France. Visit bronxvillelibrary.org for more information.

  • The Lifting Up Westchester’s Oasis of Hope Gala will take place at the Leewood Country Club (1 Leewood Drive, Eastchester) from 6-9:30 p.m. Lifting Up Westchester sponsors eight programs that assist men, women and children in need in Westchester.   • The Family Services of Westchester Star Gala will take place at The Glen Island Harbour Club (299 Weyman Avenue, New Rochelle) at 6 p.m. Among those being honored are Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim along with former Yankees Roy White, John Wetteland and Ron Bloomberg, author of Designated Hebrew: The Ron Bloomberg Story.   • The Westchester Community College (75 Grasslands Road, Valhalla) Friday Night Film Series continues a presentation of the Icelandic film “Rams” at 7:45 p.m. It’s the story of Gummi and Kiddi, two shepherds and brothers that have lived on the same land but have not spoken for 40 years.   • The Bronxville Historical Conservancy will host the 19th annual Brendan Gill Lecture at the Concordia College Sommer Center (171 White Plains Road, Bronxville) at 8 p.m. Pulitzer Prize-winning Supreme Court expert Linda Greenhouse will be on hand to have a conversation with CBS correspondent and presidential historian Mo Rocca.   • The Westchester Reform Temple (255 Mamaroneck Road, Scarsdale) will host a Shabbat Service of Responsibility at 7:45 p.m. Sonia Hochman, a Holocaust survivor from Poland who lived in underground caves for 511 days to avoid getting caught, will be the guest speaker.
