The Music Doesn’t Stop This Weekend In The 88th Assembly District

Dear friends and neighbors,

It’s going to be another musical weekend in the 88th Assembly District. There are several performances, ranging from solo efforts to concerts in the cities, towns and villages of the 88th, so get out and enjoy as many of them as possible.

THURSDAY

  • The Hitchcock Presbyterian Church (6 Greenacres Avenue, Scarsdale) will host the first of five performances in the 2017 Marguerite Manley Memorial Lenten Organ Recital Series at noon.   • The New Rochelle Public Library (1 Library Plaza, New Rochelle) will show “The Queen of Katwe”, the story of a young woman selling corn on the streets of Uganda, as part of its Extraordinary Women Film Series.   • Sarah Lawrence College (1 Mead Way, Bronxville) will host “Fred Baumgarten River Talk: Who’s Buried in Audubon’s Tomb? The Artist, the Musician and American Identity” at 7 p.m. Learn about composer Anthony Philip Heinrich and famed naturalist John James Audubon and how their lives intertwined.   • Abigail Pogrebin, the author of “My Jewish Year: 18 Holidays; One Wondering Jew” will speak at the Scarsdale Library (54 Olmstead Road, Scarsdale) at 7:30 p.m. Visit scarsdalelibrary.org for more information.
  • The Hoff-Barthelson Music School (25 School Lane, Scarsdale) will continue its week-long Baroque Period Music Festival. There will be student soloists and ensembles performing at the school on Thursday and Friday at 6:15 and 8 p.m. There will be performances on Saturday (2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.). The 6 p.m. performance will feature The Chamber Choir.
  • The Church in the Highlands (35 Bryant Avenue, White Plains) will host English Country Dancing at 7:30 p.m. Wear low-heeled, soft-sole shoes and arrive early for some beginner instruction. Call Christiane at 845-642-2074 for more information.

FRIDAY

  • The Reformed Church of Bronxville (180 Pondfield Road, Bronxville) will host the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra as it performs a 7 p.m. concert. American cellist Alisa Weilerstein is scheduled to perform. Visit reformedchurch.org for more information.

  • The Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum (895 Shore Road, Pelham Bay Park) will host “Bartow’s Literary Elevenses” at 10 a.m. Participate in an historical fiction book club led by Museum Guides Laura DeRiggi and Caitlyn Sellar. Spring Forward Into The Weekend

Dear friends and neighbors,

We’ll move step closer to spring this weekend when we set the clocks ahead one hour. Sunset will be closer to 7 p.m. so go out and enjoy all the wonderful things the 88th Assembly District gas to offer this weekend.   • The Midland Music Series returns to the Bronxville Women’s Club (135 Midland Avenue, Bronxville) with a 7:30 p.m. performance by pianist Lisa Yui. She has served as the piano department chair of the Music Advancement Program at the Juilliard School and has taught a course on the social history of the piano at Marymount Manhattan College for many years.
