The Big Days Are Almost Here

Dear friends and neighbors,

There’s only one weekend left before Chanukah and Christmas so it is time to pick up your last-minute gifts in the shops and stores of the 88th Assembly District. While you’re out shopping, take some time to enjoy many of the other holiday events our cities, towns and villages have to offer.

 THURSDAY

  • New Rochelle native Sam Friend returns to The Roscoe Room at Alvin & Friends Restaurant (14 Memorial Highway, New Rochelle) where he will perform with New Rochelle High grad Justin Perler from 8-11 p.m. Visit alvinandfriendsrestaurant.com for more information.

  • The St. Paul’s Church and National Historic Site (897 South Columbus Avenue, Mount Vernon) will host an educational program commemorating the 225th anniversary of the adoption of the Bill of Rights at 10 a.m. Visit nps.gov/sapa for more information.
  • The City of White Plains Winterfest and Downtown Holiday Market will continue on Court Street between Main and Martine Avenue and run through Sunday. There will be food, crafts, unique holiday gifts and entertainment. Visit cityofwhiteplains.com for more information.

 FRIDAY

  • The Rocky Middletown Duo will perform at Alvin & Friends Restaurant (14 Memorial Highway, New Rochelle) from 7-11 p.m. Visit alvinandfriendsrestaurant.com for more information.
  • The Hoff-Barthelson Music School (25 School Lane, Scarsdale) will present “The Song is You – Jazz Vocal Workshop Series” from 7-9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. There will be several topics covered and performances by MJ Territo. Visit hbms.org for more information.

  • The White Plains Performing Arts Center (11 City Place, White Plains) will present “Sister Act”, a performance based on the hit Whoopi Goldberg movie, at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and again on Sunday at 2 p.m. Visit wppac.com for more information.
  • The Westchester Ballet Company will perform “The Nutcracker” at The Westchester County Center at 10 a.m. There will also be performances on Saturday (12:30 and 4:30 p.m.) and Sunday (2 p.m.). Visit westchesterballet.wordpress.com for more information.

 SATURDAY

  • The Eastchester Church (11 Woodlot Road, Eastchester) will present “The Living Nativity” with Broadway performers, elegant costumes and incredible music in a 7:30 p.m. performance. There will also be a performance on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Visit eastchesterchurch.org for more information.
  • The Westchester Italian Cultural Center (One Generoso Pope Place, Tuckahoe) will present “Merry Christmas With Strega Nonna”, a story about the true spirit of giving and Christmas, at 2 p.m. Visit wiccny.org for more information.
  • The Hoff-Barthelson Music School (25 School Lane, Scarsdale) will continue its Master Class Music Series with a 1 p.m. performance by cellist Pamela Devenport. Visit hbms.org for more information.
  • The St. Paul’s Church and National Historic Site (897 South Columbus Avenue, Mount Vernon) will host Kathryn Jones as she performs holiday classics on the 1830 Erben Pipe Organ.   • The Playgroup Theater (One North Broadway, White Plains) will present “Captain Louie”, a fun, energetic story about friendship, at 8 p.m. and again Sunday at 2 p.m. Visit playgroup.org for more information.louie
  • The Bronxville Women’s Club (135 Midland Avenue, Bronxville) will hold “A Christmas Cabaret” at 7 p.m. Join the Pipe Dream Theatre for a memorable performance. Visit bronxvillewomensclub.org for more information.
  • The Scarsdale Synagogues Temples Tremont and Emanu-El (2 Ogden Road, Scarsdale) will host its third annual Vodka and Latkes Adult Party from 8-10 p.m. There will be a variety of drinks and music. Visit sstte.org for more information.
  • The Westchester County Mobile Shredder will be in Scarsdale (25 Ramsey Road) from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. Please remove all large binder clips and covers.  Papers from businesses, institutions, or commercial enterprises are not acceptable and will be rejected, as will any junk mail or newspapers. Service at the events works on a first-come, first-served basis, as the Mobile Shredder unit can reach its maximum capacity before closing time. In extreme weather, events may be cancelled or terminated early.Please call the county’s Recycling Helpline at (914) 813-5425 to check on a cancellation or early closure.   • The New Rochelle United Methodist Church Choir will travel to St. John’s Riverside Hospital (967 North Broadway, Yonkers) for Christmas Caroling from 3-5 p.m. Visit newrochelleumc.org for more information.

 SUNDAY

  • The Songcatchers 22nd annual Concert for Peace will take place at The College of New Rochelle Chapel (29 Castle Road, New Rochelle) at 4:30 p.m. Visit songcatchers.org for more information.

  • The Sing Your Heart Out Songs of the Season Concert will take place at The New Rochelle Public Library (1 Library Place, New Rochelle) at 4 p.m. There will be Christmas, Chanukah and other winter celebration music performed under the direction of music aficionado Robert Puleo.
