The Weekend Is Fast Approaching

Dear friends and neighbors,

The weekend will be here before you know it so start planning early. There are plenty of wonderful things to do in the cities, towns and villages of the 88th Assembly District that could make your weekend special. Take advantage of them and stay local.

  • The League of Women Voters will have a “Coffee and Conversation” presentation at the New Rochelle Library from 9:30- 11 a.m. in the first-floor lobby to meet with local politicians and discuss community-related issues. Visit for more information.
  • Alvin and Friends Restaurant (14 Memorial Highway, New Rochelle) will host “Tango Night in the Roscoe Room with Mayte Vicens” from 7-11:45 p.m. Visit for more information.
  • The Westchester County Center in White Plains will host the “Winter Extravaganza Baseball Card Show” from 2-8 p.m. and again on Saturday (10 a.m.-5 p.m.) and Sunday (10 a.m.-4 p.m.). Visit for more information.

  • The Bronxville Women’s Club (135 Midland Avenue, Bronxville) will host its monthly “Coffeehouse” Series event. The casual evening of live music will begin at 8 p.m. Honor Finnegan and the duo Open Book are scheduled to appear. Visit for more information.
  • The Coalition for Mutual Respect will hold its annual Martin Luther King Celebration dinner at Temple Israel of New Rochelle (1000 Pine Brook Boulevard, New Rochelle) at 6 p.m. Call 914-235-1800 for more information.


  • The New Rochelle Library will host a Friends Mini Book Sale from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. Visit for more information.
  • Jazz group The Leslie Pintchik Trio will perform from 7:30-11:30 p.m. at Alvin and Friends Restaurant in New Rochelle. Visit for more information.
  • The Rye Playland Job Fair will take place at the Westchester County Center from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. There will be on-the-spot interviews for the first 300 people who attend. Visit org/home/job-opportunities for more information.
  • The Westchester Community for Humanistic Judaism will host “Jewish Heretics from Elisha Ben Abuya to Sherwin Wine” at the Community Unitarian Universalist Church (468 Rosedale Avenue, White Plains) at 2:30 p.m. Visit for more information.
  • The Play Group Theatre will put on its production of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” at 8 p.m. and again Sunday at 2 p.m. at its studio at 1 North Broadway in White Plains. Visit for more information.little-mermaid-logo
  • “A-Game Sports”, an indoor sports facility at 856 Main Street in New Rochelle, will host a grand-opening celebration from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., highlighted by a 10:30 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony. Visit for more information.
  • The New Rochelle Youth Tackle League will hold its 57th annual awards event at Beckwith Pointe (700 Davenport Avenue, New Rochelle) from noon-3:30 p.m. Contact Larry Alston at for more information.


  • The White Plains Library will hold a “FAFSA Boot Camp” from 1-5 p.m. in an effort to help parents get a head start on the college aid process. Many forms of aid, including scholarships, require a FAFSA application. Visit for more information.

  • Tao Porchon-Lynch – a 97-year-old, World War II French Resistance fighter – has been an inspiration for so many. She was named the oldest yoga teacher in the world by the Guinness Book of World Records and on Sunday at 2 p.m. she’ll be appearing at the White Plains Library to discuss her book, Dancing Light: The Spiritual Side of Being Through the Eyes of a Modern Yoga Master.
