Continuing The Fight For Pay Equity

survey_clipartQuinnipiac University’s latest poll also featured a question regarding pay equality for women. I wasn’t surprised to see the results of the poll showed that 53 percent of voters believe that pay equity should be atop Governor Cuomo’s priority list. Thirty-six percent of those polled felt it should be a high priority while 10 percent thought it was a low priority. Among women, 60 percent say highest priority and 33 percent say high priority. Among men, 46 percent say highest and 38 percent say high.

I am among the 53/60 percent. Linda Rosenthal sponsored the New York State Fair Pay Act last year, a bill for which I voted and one that I co-sponsored. It was reintroduced this year and I continue to be a co-sponsor.

“That liberal shibboleth – equal pay for women – wins overwhelming support in this liberal state,” said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. “Even Republicans make it their top priority, although with less support than Democrats.”

Here’s a closer look at the results:

Do you think Cuomo and the legislature should give – equal pay for women the highest priority, a high priority but not the highest, or a lower priority?
