The 40th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

Well, I’m stepping a bit further into the world of online media by introducing my blog, From The Desk of Amy Paulin. Since today is the anniversary of one of the most significant and controversial decisions in the history of the Supreme Court, I decided to begin there.

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the historic Supreme Court decision in the Roe v. Wade case that legalized abortion nationwide. This has been a signature issue of mine and I have never shied away from debating what continues to be a hot-button topic.

I firmly believe in a woman’s right to choose and will continue to fight to keep such a personal decision in the hands of the people who are impacted the most – the pregnant woman who are faced with making what can often be a painful and life-altering choice.

Four decades of debate haven’t quieted those who oppose the Supreme Court’s decision and that’s to be expected. I respect those who oppose this law, though, because they also have a right to their opinions and beliefs. Still, on the anniversary of this landmark decision, it remains comforting to know that the highest court in the land continues to support a woman’s right to choose.
